Well, that went quick. What can you say about 2016 apart from… ‘Where did it go’<\/p>\n

We will kick off with a review of the 2016 Outback Challenge. Unfortunately, due to flooding around the Broken Hill area the organiser of the Outback Challenge was forced to cancel the event until 2017. This was a big disappointment to the team but we DID NOT fail out mission. Our mission was to work together to build a race car that was worth competing in the OBC, and WE DID JUST THAT. Project Perentie was completed and race ready and the team were just hours from loading up and heading up to Broken Hill when the decision was made. Despite the disappointment of not getting to race (this year), the team celebrated by heading off camping in the Victorian High Country to really revel in their success.<\/p>\n

Team, very well done! You have achieved something that many would not have thought possible at the beginning, but you did it. Kudos.<\/p>\n

The team in Brisbane kept busy with a Rockclimbing \/ Abseiling Day at Kangaroo Point hosted by Greenfrog Adventures. Brisbane Veteran Jeff organised the day and had 20 people enjoy the beautiful scenery of Brisbane whilst challenging themselves with a bit of fun.<\/p>\n

Back down south, the Melbourne team endured a cold night in Melbournes South-East raising money for Exercise Stonepillow. Hosting a charity Auction hosted by a veteran auctioneer, the team raised just over $3000.00 for El and the team at Ex Stonepillow to help homeless veterans across Australia. It is a national issue, so it needs nationwide support.<\/p>\n

EXCITING News came toward the end of the year. Co Founders and brothers Scott and Chris May were nominated and made the finalists of the 2017 Victorian Australian of the Year – Local Heroes Category. The gents attended the Victorian Governors house in Melbourne, just a stones throw from the Shrine of Remembrance, for an awards ceremony and naming of the finalist of each category.<\/p>\n

‘This has been such an amazing journey for us. 3 and a half years ago when we started out trying to help others, we never envisaged that we would have been awarded for our efforts. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and this award is on behalf of everyone that helps our veteran community” – Chris May, Co Founder Young Veterans.<\/p>\n

For now, the team are going to start to wind back the remainder of the year to allow for some Family time.
